My first project of the year is this “simple” controller and headphones holder rack I wanted to build for the kids’ playroom. It was a good project that involved some tools I had never used before, so I wanted to start the year off with this one.
The rack I made is based off of this great design from The Wood Wisperer at https://thewoodwhisperer.com/videos/classy-headphone-controller-rack/
I used White Oak for this project. I modified the design to be able to hold two controllers, instead of just one. Using the scroll saw, I made a template. I used my jig saw for the first time, and was very impressed with how accurate I was able to cut the curves on this mount. Also, used the router for the first time too. Ran into a spot where the wood kicked out on me, but I figured it out. After spending a lot of time sanding by hand with a 4-in-1 rasp file, I was ready to stain. I decided to go with a dark walnut, as Andrew originally wanted it to be black.
