2020 Salt Lake City Vacation

Day 1 (WED)

  • Surprised the kids by checking them out of school. The boys didn’t know we were going on vacation! Emily knew where, but didn’t know when.

  • Drove to New Orleans and flew straight to SLC.

  • First problem was Fox Rental Car had overbooked cars, so they didn’t have any car for our reservation! Luckily we had Valerie and Gene meeting us at the airport. They brought us to our Airbnb.

Day 2 (THU)

  • Grandma picked us up with Gene’s truck and brought us to a car rental place (AVIS inside a hotel)

  • Went skiing at Brighton. After a long time of getting skis, boots, helmets, and figuring out where to go skiing with kids, we found the “magic carpet” conveyor belt. It was a good spot to teach the kids how to ski.

  • Emily fell on her first attempt, which slowed her confidence alot. Andrew wasn’t as interested in skiing, as he was interested in playing in the snow. However, Tyler was in love and was a natural. He was making us all nervous.

  • Gene met us at the ski resort at about the time we started skiing and was a major help. The kids really love Gene.

  • As I was on a ski lift with Gene, I realized my phone fell out of my pocket. I only fell once since the last time I used it. So, when we got off the lift we skied back down to the spot where I fell. It was there! Pretty frozen but, after letting it thaw, it still worked.

  • After skiing, we passed by Walmart to get groceries for the week.

  • At night, we hung out at Valerie and Gene's, where Valerie cooked a wonderful meatloaf for everyone.

Day 3 (FRI)

  • We went snowmobiling at Summit Meadows Adventures. They put on a great tour, and the views were surreal.

  • Straight from snowmobiling, Gene took us ice fishing and sledding at Strawberry Reservoir.

  • We ended the day at Valerie and Gene's, where Valerie cooked us some amazing tacos.

Day 4 (SAT)

  • Natural History Museum. Was decent.

  • Donut Falls sleding. Snowball fight, made snowmen (Larry, Petunia, etc.)

Day 5 (SUN)

  • Tracy Aviary. The bird show was awesome. Birds were flying right over our heads, and Emily got to feed a White-Faced Whistling Duck at the bird show. The whole place was very well done.

  • In and Out Burger. First time ever.

  • Donut Falls Trail. Me and Donna hiked the trail. The waterfall was snowed in, but there was a little entrance to a cave-like scene.

  • Had a great time eating at Red Iguanas 2 for dinner.

Day 6 (MON)

  • Skied at Brighton, while it snowed. Andrew stayed at Valerie's with Grandma because he didn’t enjoy skiing. His loss. It was probably the best day of the trip.

  • Emily and Tyler became pretty good skiers. We spent most of the day all together with Tyler, Emily, Erin, Nate, Kent, Gene, and Gene’s friend, John.

  • It snowed most of the day at Brighton, but didn’t snow at all at our airbnb.

  • Spaghetti and meatballs at Valerie’s.
